DAPHNE KUHN is thrilled to announce that Theatre on the Square has made it through these challenging times and is positive about its future! The theatre had a soft opening last October with a variety of concerts, corporate events
and film shoots. While essential fundraising continues, its first fun-filled yet poignant and relevant theatre production opens in February:
LOCKDOWN UPSIDE DOWN
Stories, Songs and Sanitizer!
9 – 26 February
We proudly present an original suburban musical revue. LOCKDOWN UPSIDE DOWN. The new productions should relate to all and be a welcome theatrical tonic for the challenging lockdown period endured. It has been conceived by and features the talented Sharon Spiegel-Wagner with Lorri Strauss, together with musical director/pianist, Cathrine Hopkins. The production is directed by the esteemed and celebrated Alan Swerdlow.
LOCKED UPSIDE DOWN opens with a preview on the 9th February and will run for three weeks (Wednesdays to Sundays) from the 9 – 26 th February. It explores the trials and tribulations of two mothers, their friendship and antics
as they confront the devastating Covid pandemic during lockdown.
While the doors open on this original new production, the theatre will continue to present its regular classical and jazz concerts. A range of new local and international plays and comedies are in the pipeline, to be announced shortly.
This is the start of new beginnings for 2022. Through entertainment, the theatre is committed to providing work opportunities and creativity for the industry – and to upliftment and healing for the public.
Kuhn writes: “We are inviting our very loyal and supportive audience back to Theatre on the Square, to experience again, the joy of stimulating live theatre. Through our very successful crowd-funding efforts, we are developing a new
audience and new patrons have been awakened during the two years of cultural inactivity. We look forward to their support to keep theatre alive. By adhering to the health protocols, our audiences will feel safe and secure”.
We have no doubt that LOCKED UPSIDE DOWN will be a special night out, filled with an abundance of laughter, tears and memories. Through songs and stories, audiences will be tapping their feet to reimagined and familiar theatre
songs. The production team hopes to fill hearts with music, warmth, hope and healing.
