Local author, Zinhle T. Matthews, is the name on everyone’s lips after the release of her debut children’s book, MY FAMILY OF SUPERHEROES, in which she masterfully uses the power of positive affirmation to help children access their inner hero.
Complementing the launch of this brilliant book is the release of an equally impressive song, KE NALE MATLA meaning “I am strong or I have the power”, a duet performed by the talented Mmatema and Katlego Ntsele, which is now available for digital download. Apart from being the book’s author, Zinhle is also the executive producer of Ke Nale Matla.
“Music has always been a big part of my family so, when the concept of the book became clear, I knew music had to feature somehow,” explains the mother of two who currently lives in Midrand. “I wanted the book to have a soundtrack, like movies do. My husband writes beautiful music, so I asked him to write the song using the words in the book. Within 24 hours he had written KE NALE MATLA.”
According to her husband and talented songwriter, Ntuthuko Matthews, the inspiration for this powerful single literally jumped off the pages of the beautiful book and he enjoyed piecing together the lyrics of the song. “It is surreal and also very fulfilling to know, that in some way I have managed to capture the theme of the book and present it in a different art form,” he shares.
Mmatema and Katlego both feel extremely honoured to be part of this special project. “I thought that the book and song was a nice idea and beautiful initiative. I also really enjoyed working on the song with the team, as well as with Katlego who is very humble and talented,” says Mmatema, who – as a mother herself – also enjoyed reading the book to her son. “I hope the song will encourage children to always keep their heads high and to remember that they can do anything they set their minds to,” Katlego adds.
Determined to live out her life purpose, Zinhle is also planning the release of a music video for KE NALE MATLA on Youth Day and reveals that this is simply the beginning as she also plans to establish a non-profit organisation to continue the work she has been called to do. She also hosts Transformation Monday sessions on Instagram to share some of the lessons she has and continues to learn.
MY FAMILY OF SUPERHEROES is an inspiring book with a powerful message which will resonate with children and caregivers alike. The book is available at Amazon, Ethnikids, Book Circle Capital and other selected bookstores and is set to be translated into various languages, and to be converted into an audio book as soon as possible.
