&SCENE Launches Its Online Streaming Network!

And Scene ... about community

The award-winning theatrical production company &CO is proud to present its latest endeavor … &SCENE (And Scene), a live online curated streaming network, which will be officially launching on Saturday 25 April 2020. It is a network for theatre folk, by theatre folk. For us, it’s all about community.

Founded in April 2020, we are a live-streaming network that brings together all facets of the theatre industry in a curated online streaming performance space, creating a sense of community between audiences and artists.

We are empowering artists with unique opportunities to earn income as well as encouraging creative growth in creating unique network content. We believe that the digital trend, and all its potential, is to be embraced.

Streaming for twelve hours daily, our service is free to stream on Facebook and YouTube.

We offer a variety of content from weekday morning workouts (offering yoga, workouts and choreography), to family content (baking classes, kid centric classes offering such activities and singing and dancing and storytime), industry workshops from industry professionals (in acting, singing, dancing, producing, etc.), wellness hours (focusing on the mental and physical well-being), chat shows, play readings, open mics and special content.

Weekends are set to include a “KTV”-style show for young performers to shine, as well as a rotating Saturday afternoon special broadcast and the brand new Together Again, bringing back together members of South African favourite productions for one night only, to benefit Theatre Benevolent Fund.

We are proud to be home to new content (Bake a Leg! with Andrea Shine, Bromance with Naledi award nominees Musanete Sakupwanya and Yamikani Mahaka-Phiri, Shore Shape with Jonathan Blaine Shore) and existing content (Duck and Covid with Grant Towers, Matthew Lewis and Doug White).

We wholeheartedly believe that we are purely a platform. All work generated by artists remains the full property of the artist, moving forward. Every show will host a QR code, which connects to SnapScan and allows for viewers to make immediate donations to the artists.

In a build up to our big launch on Saturday 25 April, &SCENE will be rolling out daily content from Monday 20 April 2020 where &SCENE producer Drew Bakker will introduce audiences to the platform, its hosts and its origin story. Furthermore, Duck and Covid will continue to produce their daily show live throughout the week. Thursday 23 April will mark a preview of the platform’s daily workout schedule.

Saturday 25 April marks the launch of the network with a launch party. The party starts with the premier episode of Bake a Leg! by Andrea Shine, where Andrea will be hosting a bake along which will lead up to our main event …

The reunion of members of the cast and creatives from the 2007 South African production of HAIRSPRAY, hosted by Natasha van der Merwe. The event will bring together South African theatre legends Richard Loring, Marah Louw, Jo Galloway and Kate Normington and many more. Furthermore, we will be joined live by Tony-winning composer and lyricist Marc Shaiman, who will be making a special appearance.

The evening stands to be filled with laughter, stories and music from the production. The event has been partnered with the Theatre Benevolent Fund and will be raising funds for the cause, through SnapScan.

Our growing group of performers include Dorianne Weil (Dr. D) in a weekly informal wellness show for creatives, regular choreography classes with leading industry choreographers including Tandi Gavin and Stefania du Toit and many many more.

The Theatre Benevolent Fund was started over 50 years ago and raises money for all those who have worked professionally in the entertainment industry and for whom the spotlight has faded, no matter how it has faded. It receives no government grants and is run by volunteers from within the industry. The reunion is the first of many shows on the &SCENE network in aid of the Theatre Benevolent Fund.
